On June 23, the Wild Boars youth soccer team in Thailand walked into the sprawling Tham Luang cave complex for a fun outing following one of their soccer games. As they walked deeper and deeper into the magnificent labyrinths, they eventually decided to turn and go home. In that moment, they discovered that seasonal monsoon rains caused the waters to rise and block their way home.
Global media broke the news and an international search team was organized. Prayer vigils were launched day after day.I tried to imagine how the boys and their coach felt in the darkness with no food and little light, choking back their fear and doubts of ever being found.
One of the worst feelings in the world is being lost.
After ten heart-wrenching days, the boys were found. It, then, took seven more days to rescue them through the sacrificial efforts of many people. During the rescue, I thought of the words of Jesus who said,
For the Son of Man came to seek and save the lost. Luke 19:10
The heroic efforts of the search and rescue team reflected God’s divine nature to seek and to save that which is lost. Their inner drive was grounded in God’s love and the simple truth that all lives are worth saving. Do you care about those who are lost?
One boy told reporters, “We were actually lost long before we realized it.”
You probably have a friend or family member who is spiritually lost, whether they know it or not. If this message has encouraged you to reach the lost, then write me or leave a comment.
